Managed DNS Advanced Feature:
Active Failover

Data center/server failure? Keep your site up with Dyn’s Active Failover feature.

Data center and/or server failures are no fun for anyone, especially those responsible for website operations. If you’ve protected yourself by using Active Failover — an advanced feature available for DynECT Managed DNS users — your site will remain live and accessible without any of your visitors knowing the difference.

How Dyn does it

Using our global 24/7 network monitoring platform that monitors HTTP, HTTPs, SMTP or ICMP/Ping, Dyn rapidly detects outages in your servers, datacenters or network providers and seamlessly re-route your traffic to an alternate location that you have pre-configured via rule sets, ensuring that you are always up and running for your users.

You may also use your own internal monitoring that you can fully integrate with our API.

Why you need it

By directing your traffic at the DNS level, you have the power and flexibility to maximize uptime and be available to your customers 24/7. This is especially important for ecommerce sites that have people browsing, shopping and buying around the clock. Every minute of downtime means lost revenue, something that no one wants.

With automatic re-routing capabilities, your web users will never know there was an issue, because they will never experience a delay or dropped request.

The Dyn Difference

Many other failover products on the market sit inside your data centers. So if your data center fails, guess what? Your options for failover or backup also fail.

By using Dyn’s Active Failover service, that concern is removed.

Some additional benefits include:

  • No hardware required!
  • 24/account monitoring
  • No loss of revenue or productivity through downtime
  • Peace of mind with 24/7 account monitoring
  • Save on costly recovery efforts
  • Simple integration with custom failover rules via our web-service API
  • A web-based DNS management portal that allows you to make updates from your web browser
